THE STORY OF ABI
The short documentary follows Abi, the owner of Abi Patat, a beloved snack bar in Amsterdam . For 30 years, this snack bar has been a cornerstone of the neighborhood.
Abi runs the establishment with his wife and two daughters. The neighborhood was tough when they first started.
Abi and his family have been through a lot in the neighborhood, but they stood their ground, with Abi taking on the role of the neighborhood's father figure.
In addition to his delicious fries, Abi fostered a sense of community in the neighborhood. However, in the documentary, he learns that the building housing his snack bar is slated for demolition, and he worries about the future of his business.
THE DIRECTOR
Janna Grosfeld is a talented screenwriter and director who graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2021.
Her writing skills have already been recognized and awarded at Shortcutz (Femme, 2017) and 48HRS (2018), and her short film Onderhuids was featured at The Berlinale (2019). She has co-written the series Escape from Albatros (NPO, 2024)
Her interests lie in characters, their backgrounds, and behavior. Abi Patat is her first documentary, and she is eager to further develop her skills in documentary filmmaking.
