DISTRIBUTION

Throughout the year, we receive several requests for short film screenings in several cities, national and internationally . Each festival/Initiative has their own audience, sometimes theme, purpose, etc. To simplify the process, we created a password-protected online catalogue where we feature the most celebrated short films, as determined by our Jury Team. The selection of films is at our partners discretion to better fit their programmes.

In 2019 Shortcutz Amsterdam had more than 240 screenings abroad.

This is an advantage of the Shortcutz competition as there is no fee to be part of this programme.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

Some considerations regarding the Shortcutz Amsterdam Distribution programme:

  • Featured titles in our catalogue may change. The idea is to keep it fun for our partners too.

  • Shortcutz Amsterdam does not have any rights to your film, all screening requests will be handled individually and we will always ask your permission for each screening.

  • Shortcutz Amsterdam will try, as much as possible, to work with the information we have on file in our database. In case you want to make changes, please send an email to: Alexa (alexa.rodrigues@outlook.com).

  • Shortcutz Amsterdam will not manage your film. We do not accept or manage film festival entry fees. We will not submit your film to other festivals, except if it’s part of the Shortcutz competition advantage. For these managing purposes we advise you to hire a dedicated distributor.

What makes an organisation a good partner for Shortcutz Amsterdam?

Before teaming up with a new partner, some things we take into consideration:

  • Is the organisation prestigious and/or hip and/or loved and recognised by their community?

  • Are their events normally well attended?

  • Are their events supported/attended by interesting (networking-wise) persons?

  • Is the city/venue exciting and/or upcoming?

  • Will the association with this institution give a good image to: our Filmmakers, Shortcutz Amsterdam and Dutch cinema?

If the overall evaluation of the partnership is positive, we will approach you with the screening request.

How do we deal with screening fees REQUESTS?

Shortcutz Amsterdam will always try to negotiate screening fees for your screenings although it will not always be possible. This how our decision process works:

  • If it’s a free screening and/or non-supported screening: it’s normally sci-fi to get screening fees for these kind of screenings but we will always ask. If a screening fee is not available, the criteria we will look into before contacting you with the screening request are: the credibility and reputation of the organisation, the expected audience, the potential interesting persons who will watch your film and the location (city or venue).

  • If it’s a paid screening, Shortcutz Amsterdam will try to negotiate screening fees more intensely.

    • If screening fees aren’t possible, the criteria we will look at before contacting you with the screening request are: the credibility and reputation of the organisation, the expected audience, the potential interesting persons who will watch your film and the location (city or venue).

    • If screening fees are available, the partner festival will decide how do they want the information to be handled:

      • The partner festival will handle all the requests to the filmmakers, handle the permissions, request the info and build the packages: Shortcutz Amsterdam will charge a 0% distribution/handling commission to the partner organisation. The screening fees should be negotiated directly with the partner organisation, Shortcutz Amsterdam will only act as connector between you and the organisation.

      • The partner festival wants Shortcutz Amsterdam to compile all the requested materials and screening copies, permissions, and handle all the individual screening fee payments: Shortcutz Amsterdam will charge a 20% distribution/handling commission to the partner organisation. The screening fees we will purpose you are always net and free of any commission. You should always invoice us your screening fee + VAT. You can find our invoice’s details on the chapter EXTRAS.

Regardless of which option we use, we will always request permission for each screening, and we (or our partner organisations) will always inform you of all applicable screening fees, and it’s always at your discretion to accept or not.
