MENNO MEYJES moved to the United States at the age of 18 and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, after which he ended up in the film industry. He gained international recognition, together with an Oscar and BAFTA nomination, for adapting Alice Walker's book 'The Color Purple'. Meyjes continued his collaboration with Steven Spielberg by working on 'Empire of the Sun' and co-writing 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' together with George Lucas. Followed by two Denzel Washington blockbusters 'Ricochet' and 'The Siege'. His path into directing started in 2002 when he directed John Cusack in 'Max' and 'Martian Child'. He also directed Academy Award winners Penelope Cruz and Adrien Brody in the movie 'Manolete'. In 2012 Meyjes returned to the Netherlands when he was asked to adapt and direct the book adaptation of Herman Koch's 'Het Diner'.
Meyjes recently finished his latest Dutch movie 'De Held' which will be the opening movie of the upcoming edition of the Nederlands Film Festival on September 21st.
